Groaning Collab?

Hey, Im really interested in posting somethings to this site but theres one problem. I'm not comfortable playing a whole 5 minute backing track by myself cause i feel my playing will get old using the same licks. I can put together some nice 1-3 12 bar solos but anything more than that, unless its an actuall jam with real people, i can't play too well.

I am wondering if anyone would like to get together in playing on a collab in "Groaning The Blues" style, so a jam in A. I don't have any good backing tracks so if anyone has some message this post. Would love to get a 3-5 people jam on this thing.

Anyone up for it?

Re: Groaning Collab?

If we do do this collab, I don't want to be the first to start it, i could play the second or third solo, I just dont think my playing is good enough to start the track.

Hey LeftyBlues, what kind of BT do you have in mind? Slow blues in A?

I'll check my BTs and see if anything looks promising, but I've not built up that big a collection yet. Also I'll give the "Groaning The Blues" a quick listen or two when I'm back at a PC with sound tonight - not familiar with that song.

Re: Groaning Collab?

Hi guys
I am also interested to join in this "Groaning The Blues" collaboration jam.
Even to host it (i.e. doing the final mix).
We might even do the "backing track" ourself
You need a simple drum track and a bass track(I can do that).
This is a "electric" EC version we could copy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxTWQD91 … e=related.
Or we could use a backing track of a similar slow 12bar blues in A.

Re: Groaning Collab?

On the backing tracks in A. I found a couple of possibles (both Lawrence Fritts) - Stomp & Bawl Blues, and Bubble Gul Blues. I'll put them in the backing tracks room this evening - see what you think? icon_whoknows

Also strikes me a piece already in the blues room in G described quite rightly by MAC who posted it there as  "Cool backing track". Given the circumstances I know we might have problems with whether we should use this, but as a test I converted it to the key of A in Samplitude and I think it sounds OK still. I can post up the track in A if you want to consider it. I appreciate this might be a non-starter and it might already have been used for a collab anyway (I've not been here long). The original BT in G is at the foot of Page 1 in the Backing Tracks Room (Texas Blues Pt2).

I'm afraid I've exhausted the possibles in what I have with this - as I said I've only built up a small collection so far, and not knowing it properly I'm not in tune the "Groaning" song to easily judge how well a BT ticks all the boxes we're looking for.

Re: Groaning Collab?

Problem with those backing tracks - they're too big at 8.95 Mb and 10.0 Mb. Tried to set up a box.net account but it's not uploading properly - technology!! Anyone know any free software that reduces mp3 file sizes? sadmercy

Maybe Kalles idea of the diy track would be better? icon_whoknows

EDIT ...   EDIT  ...    IGNORE THE FIRST PARAGRAPH OF THIS POST    (my head's all over the place tonight)

The two backing tracks are now in the BT section of the site to see if you think they'd work. I used audacity to reduce the file size - I think the sound quality is still Ok but they are now well below the 8Mb limit, so I could tweak them a bit bigger if needed.

Re: Groaning Collab?

I was thinking a slow-medium heavy jam track in A sounding like EC's cover of "Groaning the Blues". About the tempo that Kalle posted.

For this Collab, we have so far:

LeftyBlues
12Bar
BlindBoy
Viking
Kalle.

This sounds like a good number of people if we were to play 2-3 12 bar's.
I'm not doing the first solo so if anyone wants to start naming the order of the jam, go ahead.
Viking

I also think that it would be appropriate that since this is a groaning the blues jam, that whoever takes the first solo plays this at the beginning:

12--12/----------
12--12/--X 3----
12--12/----------
-------------------
-------------------
-------------------

Re: Groaning Collab?

I think the Bubble Gum Blues would fit somehow, if we slow it down a bit (no problem with audacity). I can to the opening, but in no way the vocals... anyone? Or just the guitars?

Re: Groaning Collab?

I'm down for anything, if anyone wants to add vocals, they can. Once we get the backing track and the length of the solos, then we would have the order of:

1. 12bar
2. LeftyBlues
3. _________
4. _________
5. _________

Lets try and get this order set so recording will be a breeze.

OK, put me in next:-

2. LeftyBlues
3. VikingBlues
4. _________

gruebel  I'm OK with the bluesblast.com track (suggested by LB) and I'm OK (like 12bar) with the BubbleGum track. And also like 12bar I feel wary of the vocal side at the moment. alright

I will follow VikingBlues. No singing for me
Probably be Monday before I can work on it any. I am playing with some people at the local bar on Sunday, and they want to rehearse on Saturday (imagine that icon_whoknows )

Re: Groaning Collab?

So whats the backing track gonna be?

And the order would then be

1. 12bar
2. LeftyBlues
3. VikingBlues
4. BlindBoy
5. Kalle

Sounds good to me. Would really like to know what track we're using so I can get in the mind set and try some licks that might work for that track.

I don't see why not, you'll go last in the order, so after Kalle.

Re: Groaning Collab?

I'll try if a slowed down Bubble Gum works - I'll let you know. If so, I'll upload it to the backing tracks.

Re: Groaning Collab?

None of the mentioned BT's actually fit, even when slowed down.
Now we can search, make our own (who?)  or pick one of the above and stick with it, even if it's not 100% Groaning (GTB needs a quick change type).
Waddaya think?

Re: Groaning Collab?

All right I honestly have almost no access to backing tracks, hardly use them, and I can't create any. Could we maybe get HBL to make one for us?

I say just go with what we already have.

But here are some bts for your consideration:

http://www.freejamtracks.com/play-guitar-blues-01.html

There is an A that has a qwik change, it's #09....But you'll have to change the tempo since it's a medium slow shuffle.

Re: Groaning Collab?

I used audacity to edit an old BT I found on my hard disc.
It's still not exactly the same as GTB, but this way we don't have any problems with copyrights... big_smile and it's a slow, heavy quick change Blues in A minor.
It's a quick hack, so there maybe some minor glitches.

First 30 seconds are for the intro (which I'll play if it's OK), then we have 5 times 12bars of about one minute. No problem to add more parts.

I added a space after the intro which can be removed later.

I'll suggest everyone makes his own mix of his part and at the end we'll mix it together. Better quality than recoding it every time some adds his piece.

OK? chicken
