I felt it's best to keep the -in between progress- out of the MAC topic.
Second take.
I tried to put a little more structure in the song by creating equal "choruses" all played by itself btw.
The last verse to me is a keeper. the first two have to be re recorded.
Darn, I have to control my breathing much more when using mics and an acoustic. I tend to hold my breath sometimes while playing and then have trouble keeping the volume down (I have a little cold)
It seems that every time I stand up and sit down again to play I change my position towards the mic... leading to sound changes.... ![]()
ok, suggestions and critique please.

HBl .......I just don't know how you are managing it at all !!!! I can't play this well................... without a finger op !!! .............AArrgh !!
So ..................I am wildly envious of your superb guitar playing qualiities and FAB tone ..........great on both takes I and 2
I really like the track, its simple and therefore very emotional ....the fact that there are no words /vocals means you have to imagine your own deep thoughts
take 1 is very clean and simple ...........take 2 seems slightly more complicated ....sounds a bit like you have it tracked twice/ two different guitar parts .
As you have requested critique .....................I am going to be uber critical here .....it seems to me that in two places it seems to overlap or go slightly out of synch some-how
somewhere between secs 8 and 18 it gets overly complex or out of synch and then .......... .by 0.25 its back on track again
and at about 1.25 . it seems to get overcomplicated again for about half a bar or 2/3 secs
But listen ......................I am being very picky here !! .and it is very very good.
how to better it ....I think I would lke it to end very gently and sadly ..............rather than just fade out. but that might just be a personal pref.
I am indeed envious !! ...and will spend some time tomorrow trying to emulate your playing !!
Your cold and snuffles ...well sorry about that ....but you can't hear it anywhere!! ...................the sound quality is top notch tho

I don't feel qualified to critique your work and Strummer07 has done a good job on tha already.
My coment on the site news thread where take 1 link appeared still holds good
..... can be summed up in 3 words.
Beautiful. Heartfelt. Moving. thumbsup
FWIW I have a "gut feeling" that the melody needs to be able to ring out purely and the accompanying guitars need to be relatively down in the fix / well away from the melodys frequency range. My reason I think, is that there is so much of the feeling and passion coming from the tone and beauty of the melody notes. There's an intensity of emotion coming from many of these single notes / vibrato / slides etc.
Strummer07 has said "I think I would lke it to end very gently and sadly". I think Iwould second that - but I appreciate it's a much more tricky route to follow.

Thanks guys
I did some minor changes in the mastering and lead work trying to work on Strummers remarks.
Still work to be done.
here is the bluesroom comment:
A remastered version of My second take to this song. Again I created my own lead. tried to structure the song a little more. Still a couple off things to do
I changed the lead in the start section and remastered the rhythm track to semi stereo
And here is the link : http://12bar.de/forum/uploads.php?file= … stered.mp3
How about this version ?

I LOVE this version Hans uploaded, and I'm amazed that he could play that fantastically after surgery, but I shouldn't be, as I know he could probably play beautifully with both hands in boxing gloves, just by thinking the song! Incredibly beautiful playing - as ALWAYS my friend - and with one hand healing from surgery and weak!! Amazing, but that is nothing new for you!
I've uploaded my versions(s) - with and without vocals (you'll most like like the non-vocal as I can't sing in EC's range well at all, but felt the need to give it a try). I start a separate thread on that).
Again, wonderful, beautiful and able to (and is) bring(ing) me to tears!
42 thumbs up !! and MAC is loving you more than ever for playing this through your pain.

Thank you my friends.
Still I feel -not done- with the song.
I CAN do better, and I think Mac deserves better from me.
Ive neglected my nylon string to long and now am paying the price by not being comfortable playing it.
As soon as my playing is back to where it was I will continue this one.

Intended crosspost for technical comments sake
n stead of trying to play better, I went for pictures and created this for Mac.
There was no way to show it here and keep it private, so I'lll leave it shared for just a while.

Thank you for sharing the pictures too.
They fit in really well with the music. I'm sure everyone seeing this will be moved deeply.
Full of sadness, but love too - I've not heard such a beatiful acoustic lead line for a long long time.

Beautiful pictures that fit in so perfectly with the beautiful song (Beautifully played), the so sad passing of our good friend MAC, and his home of Ireland. The text near the end sums it all up so perfectly - great job!!
I didn't mention when I found that he was Irish how much even deeper I felt the loss, and closeness to MAC, because as I've noted here before, I have dual US/Irish citizenship because of Mary's Grandma Murphy, who passed from here at age 106, and was the reason I learned "Tears in Heaven", so I could play it at her bedside a day or two before she passed on at the request of the family. I'm ashamed to say I haven't been in my other homeland yet, but I WILL get there! And for certain I will visit either the place where MAC rests in peace (if the family has not had a cremation and kept the ashes at home, as my Mother has done with my Dad). But I would want to visit his hometown in any case, as it would give a better picture of some of what inspired MAC to be the wonderful person he was.
HANS - when I had my hand surgery, I couldn't have played AT ALL (!!!) and you were able to play and put up a really excellent version of Tears and there is NO NEED to be apologetic in the least - you went above and beyond what almost anyone else in your condition would have or could have, done!!!
