Working Class Hero
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Peeps
Been a few weeks,
and I decided 2 try something
different
I went the acoustic
guitar/singer route,
not my usual genre
This time w/a John Lennon
song from his first solo album (my Fav)
http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8364442
That's me going for it in one take
w/a couple of guitar flubs
But it is what it is
Enjoy

Hi Bluez2move
I never liked Lennon's music - at least before hearing your song.
To say you did a GREAT job would be an understatement.
But, that's all I can think of right now to say - GREAT JOB !!!!

As strummer said - you have a good voice. ![]()

Lennon - outside the Blues world - is also #1 for me, and as spooky as it may be, I was with a group of people in San Francisco and I was playing Folk type acoustic music for them, and when I did that Lennon was always part of my "set" - and well.. that was on December 8, 1980... I was in the middle of playing (and trying the sing) "You've got to hide your love away" when the door burst open and friend said John was just shot in NYC and was dead... It was just like when I was 11 years old, and they sent us all home early from grammar school, but didn't tell us why, and another kid told me (on a spot on a field I walked across to get home as it was right down the street) that Kennedy was dead. I didn't believe him - and didn't believe it happened until I got home and saw the look on my parent face and heard the radio was on (I also saw Oswald get shot live on TV a few days later). Well, I didn't believe - COULDN'T BELIEVE that John - THE JOHN - immortal to me as his music has become - was dead. And only after we all ran out and found out it was true did the shock hit -- and we all got high that night (we HAD to) and I almost didn't remember it when I woke up the next morning until I saw the front page of the newspaper. "Lennon Shot Dead in New York City" -- one of the blackest days of my life and that morning was the 9th, and Lennon was born on the 9th, as was Sean and Number Nine was a very special number to him. He actually died on the 9th Liverpool time (very late on the 8th NYC time) so Number Nine was to be special again - but in such a horrible way. I have trouble playing that song to this day.
But I've never tried to play Working Class Hero - and after hearing your version ... well right now I say YOU OWN IT!!!
That was FABULOUS!!
It's a shame than censorship necessitates not using the *F* word (well, Green Day did use it in their very cool version - BUT also had to make a "clean" version with F*CKING removed from the two places it occurs. Lennon put that word in that song for a reason - it should be in the song, even if fewer places will play it - but I totally understand that these days you can get yourself (depending on where it's played or performed) in big trouble or have virtually NO places with any real traffic be willing to host it if you leave it in. It's what you had to do or we would probably never have heard your great rendition of it.
I'm getting off my soapbox now before I REALLY get up on it!!!
Sorry for all the side-tracks in this post, just to say I LOVED the way you did that great song!!

Thanx a lot Jim
Yes, I do remember that day
I was just as crushed
, 2 top
it off that very day, I had broke up
with my GF (who's now my wife
)
for some stupid reason
, & I spent
the next 2 day's mourning both losses
Listening 2 the album this song is on,
it's my favorite Lennon album, so stark and real
I still have a copy of the LA Times
from that day sealed in plastic
Thanx for the xcellent kudos M'Man
