The guitar on the left is my 1969 Gibson SG Pro. This was my first good guitar. I got it back in the middle '80's for $150. It had had a neck repair, Grover tuners, heavy metal pickups (it came with P-90's), and the bridge/tremelo was missing pieces. Over the years it has had several different pickups and I changed the bridge and tailpiece. (Did a poor job of it, too. It won't intonate right so it is a slide only guitar now. :shy: ) Now, a friend of mine has it and is replacing the pickups with a pair of Gibson humbuckers from 1980 and is replacing the bridge/tailpiece with a NOS Wilkinson wrap around bridge. All this for under $200! :chicken: I can't wait to get it back!

Nice Christmas present - good luck!
(BTW - did you fix your PC/recording problems?)

I should be picking it up Christmas Eve, so it will be like a present.
No, I still can't record. I have kind of given up on that, for now. :wall:

That's something well worth waiting for - a good Christmas present indeed!

The Wilkinson bridge should be good quality - all Wilkinson parts I've ever used / had have been great value for money.

Shame for you about your recording problems ... and for us too.

It should be way cool! I'm hoping to get some Dereck Trucks/ Warren Haines kind of tones out of it.

Ok, I finally got my 1969 Gibson SG Pro back from my buddy. He put a pair of Gibson 490 humbuckers in it, recut the nut and flipped and recut some saddles and got it to intonate without replacing any bridge peices. The reason it took so long to get it back was that it apparently desperatly needed a fret job. He decided to to a complete refret with jumbo frets, and refurbished the neck and fretboard while he was at it. He also tightened up the Grover tuners. This thing is like a whole new guitar! I'm still getting used to how it sounds and plays (narrower neck than I am used to), but I think it will be very cool. The tone is much better now that it has proper Gibson pickups. I plan to play it at our gig tomorrow night and see how it does.

Worth waiting for these things if it's a job done properly and that sounds like a complete overhaul and upgrade.

I hope it works well for you at the gig! :fingerscrossed:
