Kalle the bass player

Post by Kalle »

Hi Guys
You might remember that I am playing with jam band at work.
What has happend is that the bass player left the band to play with another band.
It ended it up with that I took over the bass player role.
It´s rather fun to play the bass in a band and not so difficult if you have played guitar before.
The most basic way is to play the root note of the chords plus the fifth and octave as in a power chord.
And with chord progression of a new song at hand you can make yourself useful with these notes.
But it even more fun to learn the right bass playing of a song.
And then you will have important role if the band plays songs with a distinctive bass sound .
And our band is playing songs by Police ( Roxanne) , RHCP (Californication), Beatles ( Something, When my guitar gently weeps).
These are all songs where the bass guitar has an important role....

Yep, it's fun to play bass and in some way it helps to improve your harmony awerness so keep on doing that, but don't forget to finger your guitar now and then too...

Yes
Bass playing helps me to find ( on the fingerboard) where all notes in chord are in reference to root note.
Root, fifth and octave is BASS´ic notes, but finding the uniqe notes for minor, major and seven chords adds up the possibility to improvise.
And it also force/teaches me to take control of rythm/timing (together with drummer) in band situation.
As a guitar player you are following, but as bass player you should be in control of the rythm.
Here is examples of my bass playing level today.

No, I have not lost interest in guitar playing.
I have putting in great effort and time to learn the rythm an lead guitar patterns in CREAM´s version of Layla.
Lot´s off fast finger movements and hammer-ons/pull-offs.
That helps me to have the fretting hand fingers up to speed and also the picking hand.
( I am also playing the bass with a pick and using alternating picking on the bass ,i.e. guitar techniques)

Sure it's D&D, it was one of the first riffs I learned on guitar. Not the best to start with and took me a long time, but I even "master" it with fingerstyle.
Saw a bass the other day at a pawnshop, but could resist. Need more time and space

BTW - couldn't open the link, it's for registered users only.

Kalle. It sounds good that you play. Tight and right. There is a big difference from the first (was it the first?) Track you uploaded. True success for you. Keep it up and it will be as advertised "Nemas problemas.".....
