Re: Need some input...

Sounds like exciting developments going on there with the band Bb. To me - and I have to admit to ignorance of the original here (my familiarity being one with "Hard Road") - I would prefer 1.mp3. This probably won't surprise you as it is the less busy of the two. I just feel it...

Re: Call and response

Try playing the vocal melodies of songs on your guitar. I think this opens up a lot of ideas you don't here by just playing the blues scale all the time. Melody notes tend to follow chords more than guitar solos do. That's a great thing to do! Also try this: 1. Put your guitar down. 2. Relax. 3. Re...

Re: Strat Project Diary

You should be able to get her back together without too much trouble  That's what I keep telling myself, but I'd make a poor salesman 'cos I don't think I believe me! As for finish, I would go for a tung oil finish, multiple coats, with sanding and rubbing going on... It should loo...

Re: Les Paul Project Diary

 The machine heads have scrubbed up well - looks like they're worth a try - the test will be whether they keep the guitar in tune OK, but they're easy to change at a later date if needed. The advantage of getting a wiring kit from the like of Stew Mac (or similar - for me it's AxesRUs in t...

Re: OnLine Jamming !!

Yup - anything to do with music on computers is a great idea - in principal, but is usually - in practice - near enough impossible because of the computer. I can believe XP being the better bet. Why do we have to revert to old systems to just be able to record and play music - thanks Microsof...

That's VERY nice 12bar!

I've heard you say "I wish I had more time to play". I wish you had too - always a pleasure to listen to your take on a piece. As usual you pick some very good notes and a great tone too.

Re: Bad Day Blues Dm

I do like this BT - gives a real mood to slip into. Nicely played and very fluid. Love those flurries and runs. The Yamaha's a semi-acoustic - yes? And obviously a good one. One take is good - I like the one take - makes it alive and unrehearsed. Love the tone and the real bluesy edge you...

Re: Les Paul Project Diary

That's a very good post by Vancouveris there - nothing for me to add to that as it covers it all. Certainly you appear to have the right sort of controls for a LP and the right values for resistance, capacitors etc. Like HBL said in his post the earth wire is to the bridge (or tailpiece) and it need...

Re: Strat Project Diary

I guess its is the same way if you try out a couple of guitars of the same brand i a shop and one of theme is a lot better than the rest. It is the synergy the totall result is more than the sum of the parts. I should never put any paint on it now it sound s like that :music2: I should love ...

Wow, that sounds like a $ 1500,- strat VB, please try to create a short sound demo with all the guitar sound controls @ 10 and without reverb :) I would love to hear the famous bells in the switch positions 2 and 4  Well played btw Thanks HBL - I'm totally bowled over by the sounds coming ou...

Re: Call and response

It's mostly about phrasing. Think of your guitar lines like they were vocal lines. Leave pauses where a singer would breathe and between words. Great advice - as is the whole of Bb's post. Really listening to what is going along and fitting in with it and responding to it with logical va...

Re: Acoustic spaces

I like both versions. Keeping in mind that the original "Leaving Spaces" is one of the best pieces of playing that I have heard from you (imo), and the new one is on a guitar that you are still getting used to, comparisons are not really fair. Play Little Sister a lot for another couple o...

Re: Strat Project Diary

It sounds like all the hard work is paying back VB more than good en it gonna became just better and better the more you played the guitar. Be carefull with the paint because the heavy reliced guitars sounds a lot more OPEN than the perfectly painted ones. You know that paint is a sound killer. Tha...

It does seem to be a guitar that is well suited to a bigger range in expressiveness when playing and it encourages you to experiment. Darn,....... should have known I couldn't keep that a secret..... ;) :D  I played around a bit again this morning with trying to d...

Re: Les Paul Project Diary

Judging from the photos I can't make out if it is a solid wood or layerd (ply? wood) body. Plywood, I'm afraid... but that's OK since it is our first guitar project. Yes, I agree. Also with it being a bolt on then either the body &/or neck can be upgraded in the future if necessary. try to find...

Re: Strat Project Diary

Thanks Blindboy. Unless any of the types have real problems associated with them I'd agree 100% - just use what you have and what's good value. I'm not feeling there's any negatives at present with not having a string tree on at all - makes me wonder if the option of none might be as good as any oth...

Good luck with getting the amp fixed Bb (best waiting for the good tech methinks) and good luck with the replacement amp at the open mic. On which topic I did listen / watch the other videos you posted the link to - that's a great collection of songs the two of you have done, and very wel...

Re: Les Paul Project Diary

He is now looking for a set of good, but reasonable, tuners. Any suggestions? Nothing real expensive but good quality. We are going to go with silver trim for a couple of reasons... 1. VB said that we would need good quality gold or it would wear off (Uh.. lots more $$, no thanks) and 2. We already...
