Re: El Mano's Indian Summer

A very rainy day in august inspired me to look for an... Indian Summer (bluesharp fits in well too, isn't it? ) Fits in very well. Something Special from MidnightSpecial - you mesh in well with ElMano's style and I see from ElMano's post you play together. It shows. :D Good stuff. :cl...

Re: Acoustic spaces

:aha: Aha - just what I thought. If the player is good enough then any guitar is a blues guitar. Silky tone with a blues edge - crystal clear notes - you'ev got yourself a winner with this guitar HBL.  To think that this is the same instrument that was doing it's Spanish thing just a fe...

Re: El Mano's Indian Summer

I've had a bit of time on my hands for a change. I need to get the hang of the "Strat" and keep fine tuning the playing action .... so .... I thought I'd finally give it a go at joining in on this one. :yikes: Now in my defence - the style of the peice is very outside my normal - ...

Re: Someone mentioned spanish

Now THAT IS a lovely tone. Transported away to sun bleached Spain sitting at a sunshaded table with paella and a nice rioja. :D

Damn it's finished. Hey - who let that donkey in here!

Like LzyBlue i could listen to much, much more.

Re: Les Paul Project Diary

I removed the neck and it seems to be nice and straight and not twisted. The frets really need to be replaced, but I'm not sure I'm up for that just yet, any advice on that? Good start that the neck looks OK - hmm, hopefully someone here can advise on fret repalcements - one of a number of guitar m...

Re: Fret problem

Thanks for the advice, I think my problem might be what you said about the bridge saddles not lining up to my neck radius since I keep my action pretty high as it is. Does this mean that I don't have the right type of bridge on my guitar? This would be the most likely case for me since I actually b...

Re: Newbie on the forum with a first try-out

There is some hiss on the recording I'm listening to , but I can hear some real nice tone and good melodic playing, and a mood comes across too. And yes indeed, there is a hint of the HBL style in there too. Good one Ron.

Re: Strat Project Diary

Thanks for the picture of the First Lady's stringtree arrangement HBL. And thanks for the comments on the sounds. :D I was quite shocked, but hugely pleased by how good they sounded (especially through the tube amp) particularly as the pickups are really too far away from the strings still. I don't ...

Re: Les Paul Project Diary

My earlier attempt at a post here vanished into the ether - but HBLs post has said it better, so that's worked out well. That's a good find by grandpa for $25! At least with it being a bolt on neck it is easier to replace either the body or the neck if necessary. Hopefully the neck is in good...

Re: Slow Bm Blues BT

Here's my hesitant try of the Bm slow blues (BJB), with bad timings and wrong notes :lefty: Nice playing Pena, and like HBL I didn't notice much in the way of wrong notes. The timings can be quite tricky on a piece a slow as this BT - I reckon your control was good though and you mesh well n...

Re: Fret problem

If you have a 7.25" radius neck then fret-out is a commonly reported problem. If you had this problem on a number of frets then the action could be be too low for the 7.25 radius. If you had this problem on a number of frets on one string it could be that the radius of the bridge saddles ...

Re: Strat Project Diary - A sound or two

The electrics work  - although the jack socket and trem claw earth are held in place with insulating tape. Bridge fully in place and trem balanced for a decent set of d'Addario 9s. Strap pins on. String trees to do - back plate to do. Getting some buzz on the neck and bridge pickups - inevitab...

Re: Strat Project Diary - String-Trees Query

Looking for advice from those of you with Strats - string-trees on the top 2 or the top 4 strings? :icon_whoknows: And which tuning pegs are the string-trees positioned near for a good angle so as not to screw up the movement of strings with a trem arm? :icon_whoknows: I know I can look it up on the...

Re: Strat Project Diary

At least the strings go on straight  EDITED - SHOULD HAVE BEEN 2 DIFFERENT PICTURES - DOH! 100_2593sm.jpg 100_2592sm.jpg They even line up pretty well with the pup polepieces. I'm glad I went for the narrower string width though - there's very little margin for error. Just had some fun thi...
