Its funny, me and my grandpa were just talking about how much more louder and fuller Bonamassa's tone and how he could outplay Eric. I don't hear any "outplay" there. A different sound (I love humbuckers, too), a little bit more volume, but I think outplaying is something different. :icon...

I can play a barre chord and bend a string, but I'm not perfect - in both. But it helps to be able to play notes on different frets and strings for some songs... However, it does not help if practice is missing :lol: - see below. I don't have a mic, so it's played on my Sheraton - a bit harder than ...

Modes are interesting, but other ways also work to describe these things. I've written it down some time ago, it's part of the tutorial: http://12bar.de/basics.php . And you're right, ionian is what we call THE major scale. We've discussed this in the old forum (some members sound familiar :high5: )...

Being also entirely self taught, I know what you are talking about. I started with simple chords (E, A, ...), fingers angled somehow, thumb over neck. Then I got a book about classical guitar playing. Strictly classical. I was shocked - everything I knew was wrong. I had a hard time to learn it agai...
