Another one - Devil Walk You Down

Here's another original song by my band (band is called Woodlark).

Acoustic, not sure if this is blues, but it's bluesy - or maybe more like an old spiritual. Just a very simple melody. Maybe kinda Alison Krauss/Union Station?

This is in G, Gerd. No capo this time!

Re: My Town

Sounds great, catchy chorus, and some excellent melodies - I agree with 12bar, this style seems to suit you

Re: Plasterboard Saints (Santa Maria Novella Blues)

Hi 12bar, Thanks - yes, I've found that working with a "real" singer (as opposed to people who can sing,or just singing myself), I often have to change key to best suit the vocal range. Luckily for us guitarists, that's a simple enough process, and a capo is essential! Funny story about th...

Plasterboard Saints (Santa Maria Novella Blues)

Hi all, I've been working with a new band, mostly playing acoustic folk, but managing to squeeze some blues in sometimes :high5: This is a recording I made and mixed myself of one of our songs, pretty much a standard 12-bar blues, with the band. This is a rough demo, recorded in our rehearsal...

Re: Dusty Road

Hi VB, You've certainly come on a lot! Recording sounds great, very clear and well-mixed, no problems I can hear - maybe that sounds like faint praise, but I know how difficult it can be to make it sound effortlessly good, and this does! Lyrics are fine, nothing awkward, sounds like you've been writ...

Re: Dual Microphones

Hi VB, that sounds great! Very warm and clear sound, fantastic! I recently got to record some stuff with a pro sound engineer, and he used a matched pair of small condensers on my guitar - don't know what brand/model, but both cardioid, X-Y configuration. Think I'll have to get a pair for myself, ra...

The answer to the age-old question "how many guitars do you really need?" is "just one...more!"

Re: Fender Ron Emory Parlour guitar...

Hi VB - you remembered some of my songs, I'm touched :-) Good point about factory made guitars, I guess that's always the case. But then I won't be buying anything that's NOT factory made - too expensive! I haven't owned many acoustic guitars - a Yamaha 12-string that was pretty good back in the 90s...

Fender Ron Emory Parlour guitar...

First of all, hello again to anyone who remembers me, it's quite a while since I've been on here! Been very busy, mostly with work, but also with my band - coming along nicely thank you! I like small-bodied acoustic guitars, and I recently spotted this in my local music store in Dublin; http://www.m...

Re: Blues Collab, Feat. Vikingblues & Tytlblues

Hi VB - nice piece! Your playing has really come on, I see that Tytlblues is pushing you on to great things!! I love the last section with both of you playing together, when it's done well (as it is here) 2 lead guitars sound great together. Cool BT too, the horns really add to the sound.

Re: Best value Les Paul copy?

I started this thread, way back when, so here's an update. I got a Vintage TSB Les Paul, an old 2nd-hand one, but it was certainly good value - I got it for free! A guy I know at work was leaving the country, probably for good, and left one of his guitars with me. It's not one of the newer Wilkinson...

Re: Harley Benton American - Cheap Amp Substitute

Hi VB, I've noticed these "Joyo" pedals cropping up on the net a lot lately, with some great reviews for cheap clones. I've got an order lined up with Thomann for the Ultimate Drive (OCD clone), and Digital Delay (could be a copy of the Mad Professor's Deep Blue Delay?), and looking for th...

Re: New album from John Mayer

This has been available streaming on itunes for a week, and was officially released today. I'm a Mayer fan, so I've listened to it quite a lot, and I like it. There is only one song that is in any way bluesy, "Something Like Olivia", which has a great blues/pop style like some of his best ...

Re: Now That Summer Has Gone

I did look at the "logic" to scales etc of this - it was way beyond me. I had to laugh at this - it's way beyond me too! This is why I was never big on theory  The sections with chords C F G F G C, and C Em C Em - OK - can cope wth that. When it came to the Am D F Em AM D F part - I ...

Re: Now That Summer Has Gone

Thanks again guys, especially Tytl for the explanation. That makes a lot of sense, it resolves naturally to a C major chord, so I guess the song is in G mixolydian? Cool.
